Hi there, I’m Mary McGill.
I am a writer/journalist, researcher and speaker/media contributor.
Currently I am a Hardiman scholar at the National University of Ireland, Galway, where I am a contributing lecturer at the Centre for Global Women’s Studies. My doctoral research explores contemporary femininities, postfeminist digital cultures and the selfie phenomenon. Earlier this year, after being nominated by my students, I gave a TEDx Talk about my research.
As a journalist, I have worked in print, broadcast and digital. I have written for a wide range of titles including VICE, Broadly, Irish Tatler, U magazine, Irish Country Magazine, the Irish Independent and many others. I am also a regular contributor and reviewer on RTÉ Radio One’s Arena and TV3’s Midday. Much of my work focuses on popular culture, the arts, women’s rights, and social justice.
Below is a sample of the organisations, platforms, and publications which have featured my work.
